Their beauty is but skin deep. Each of the flowers having something much darker, more sinister than first meets the eye. Indeed, the series takes it’s title from the common name for Woody Nightshade, Bittersweet.

This beautiful flower can be seen late Spring till the end of Summer.
The common name comes from the plant’s creeping, winding vines which “bind” themselves
suffocating and choking with its beauty the flora to which it hugs.

This bewitching flower can be seen flowering early Summer and sometimes later in the season.
The entire plant is toxic including the roots and seeds.

Veiled amongst shadowy undergrowth and hedgerows can be found the delicate Woody Nightshade or Bittersweet, a femme fatale of flora.
Flowering from June through to September with an exquisite blaze of vibrant purple flowers and enticing, voluptuous scarlet berries, it is easily to fall under the spell of the Bittersweet.
Alas, Bittersweet by name, bittersweet by nature. Its allure and beauty aside, La Belle Fleur is pernicious - from its very root to berry it is entirely poisonous.
